FFA Cup Round 2

Come and join us for the FFA Cup Round 2 – 2pm Sunday 8th March

Coffs City United FC v Urunga FC

Forsyth Park (McLean Street), Coffs Harbour

PACK away your croquet mallets, snap your surf-boards in half, and throw your cricket bats on the fire because summer is over and the football season is officially upon us.
After six weeks of gruelling preseason training and two trial games the Urunga Raiders take on Coffs United Lions in their first competitive match for the year this weekend in round 2 of the Football Federation Australia Cup.  (The Raiders were gifted the bye for round 1).
The FFA Cup is now a nation wide knockout competition giving amateur clubs the opportunity to prove themselves against State league and A-League opposition if they are good enough to progress to the final stages of the tournament.
As a first up encounter, you couldn’t ask for a tougher test.   The Lions have been the North Coasts’ dominant club for the last decade, and will be smarting at not making last years grand final.  What better chance to redeem themselves than by knocking off the reigning premiers.  The Lions scraped through Round 1, coming back from 2-0 down to go through on penalties against a spirited Northern Storm outfit.
With 30 players fit and registered, and only a squad of 16 to be selected, coach Paul Pomroy will have some selection headaches coming into this game.
