Phil Fogarty

It is with considerable sadness that we advise a close friend and huge contributor to Urunga Football, Phil Fogarty, passed away last Wednesday after complications from surgery.

Apart from his massive contribution to our club, he was a keen cyclist and the cycling fraternity are also recognising him this week as “Festival of Phil”, with a number of planned rides to show support to his son, Jim, & his brother (Peter) who are in town.  Phil only just retired from his work a few weeks ago.

Phil has been a long standing executive committee member & player at UFC. It was his enthusiasm and drive that amalgamated the club into one entity in 2007, as back then, there was a separate “Seniors” and “Juniors”. He drafted the original amalgamation document which became the club’s current constitution and played a critical role in the club’s growth generating all sorts of grants and remaining a key executive committee member for years. Phil has been a legendary supporter for the club. His zest for life and dedication to soccer was exemplary. Phil did everything he could to grow and support UFC, including dedicating himself to resolving long drawn out issues over the grounds through the “Recreation Grounds” committee.

There will be a celebration of life on Wednesday 24th April at Nambucca Valley Golf club starting at 2:00pm. Phil loved his football, whether it was watching a game, playing, or simply helping out around the club.  Urunga Raiders are a special connection for his son, Jim, and Phil took great pride in watching and being part of the club’s many successes.   During the celebration, there is an opportunity to share little stories or memories (about 3 mins). If you would like to be involved, please contact Cathy Jarrett.

There will also be opportunities for people to share stories informally throughout the celebration.

Our thoughts and sincere condolences are to Bev and the family.  UFC is humbled and blessed to have been a part of Phil’s life.
